FAQs

Q: How often are grants awarded?

A: Grants will be awarded on an annual basis, typically in the fall of each year.

Q: What are the grant amounts?

A: It is anticipated that the Barney & Barney Foundation will make gifts each year to a variety of non-profit organizations operating in our communities. Currently, this includes San Diego, Orange County and the Bay Area.

The financial amount of our grants varies depending on funds made available through fundraising efforts. Grant amounts are partially based on the need of the beneficiary.

Q: How many non-profit organizations will receive grants annually?

A: Grant Recipients will vary year after year depending on funds raised and the needs of the community. In the Foundation’s first grant cycle, 12 beneficiaries received a total of $180,000 of grants ranging from $5,000 to $50,000.

Q: How can a non-profit organization apply?

A: Non-profit organizations need to be nominated by a current Barney & Barney associate. Each year, associates will be invited to nominate a qualifying organization to receive a grant.

Q: Who are the recipients of the Barney & Barney Foundation grants?

A: The Barney & Barney Foundation’s goal is to contribute to community non-profit organizations who assist those in need, support our youth, advance the arts and protect the environment.

Q: How are Grant Recipients chosen?

A: Each year, our colleagues nominate local non-profits for grants. The Foundation Committee will review all grant applications and make a recommendation to the Board of Directors for approval, who will narrowing the candidates to 2-3 per area of focus (e.g., supporting youth and community, arts or the environment). This process allows the Barney & Barney Foundation to recognize the overall merits and qualifications of each applicant, as well as ensures that the distribution of grants is in line with the Foundation’s mission statement and goals.

The Foundation is committed to supporting a variety of deserving causes, and it is our intention to select different non-profit organizations each year.

Q: What is the criteria for selection?

A: The Barney & Barney Foundation looks for non-profit organizations that either assist under-served communities, support our youth, work to protect the environment or promote the arts.

Q: How can I support the Foundation’s mission?

A: Our grants are made possible from private and corporate contributions. If you’d like to donate or become a sponsor, please contact Lauren Brown at Lauren.Brown@MarshMMA.com.

Q: To whom do I write the check?

A: The Barney & Barney Foundation.
